• Call 811 before you dig to check for underground utilities — this gate needs two finishing posts (BL19042) set into the ground.
• See your Sturbridge Fence (BL19103) install guide for full panel assembly and layout.
• Pre-assemble your gate frame first — do a dry run before permanently screwing anything together, to confirm you have everything you need, the frame goes together in the right order, and the gate's height and width match the dimensions below.
• Install your gate posts before your fence posts — fence panels are more forgiving for a custom fit than a gate is.
• You should not need excessive force when assembling components.

Your gate will perform best with complete fence panels on both sides. At minimum, the hinge post should be part of a connected fence run — tying it to a panel that continues to another post lets that post help carry the gate's swinging load, instead of the hinge post bearing it alone. If space restrictions make this impossible, contact us for alternative solutions.

Hinges only open one direction. Decide which way you want your gate to open before mounting your hinges.

Insert one Horizontal Rail (E) all the way into a Corner Bracket (A) until it hits the back of the bracket, then insert the same rail into the opposite Corner Bracket (A) the same way. Confirm the rail hits the back of both bottom brackets, and measure the distance between them to check the width is 48".

Insert both Vertical Stiles (B) into the gate's bottom brackets until they hit the bottom rail.

Insert the second Horizontal Rail (E) all the way into a Corner Bracket (A) until it hits the corner of the bracket, then insert the same rail into the opposite Corner Bracket (A) the same way.

Insert Thin Pickets (C) and Wide Pickets (D) into the bottom rail as shown.

Slide the assembled gate frame top down over the pickets and vertical stiles.

Fasten the gate frame together using 16 of the included 1¼" Self-Drilling Stainless Steel Screws (I). Skip the two corners marked in the diagram — those are needed for hinge installation later.

Optional, for a slower self-close. Insert the Tension Pin (J) into a hole at the top of the Hinge (I), then rotate it to the right — this takes moderate force. To loosen the tension, turn the pin fully right, remove the smaller pin, let the tension pin ease back to the left, and reinsert the smaller pin into a new hole.

Using your two wrenches, loosen or tighten the nuts on the hinge to adjust the spacing between your gate and hinge post. This can also help you moderately level your gate later on.

Fasten the two Hinges (F) onto the corner brackets using 8 of the included 1¼" Self-Drilling Black Stainless Steel Screws (J).

Fasten the Latch Finger (G) onto the upper corner bracket using 6 more Screws (J).

Pool Code Notes: For swimming and other child safety gates, most safety standards specify: fence height of 4'–6' minimum; the gate should open outward, away from the pool; and the latch-releasing mechanism should sit a minimum of 54" off the ground. Your local municipality or HOA may require a "top pull" latch for pool gates — top-pull MagnaLatch hardware options are available at hardware stores or online.

Use temporary spacers or blocks to rest the gate on. Fasten the hinges to the fence post using 6 of the included 1¼" Self-Drilling Black Stainless Steel Screws (J).

Fasten the hinges to the inside of the fence post by swinging the gate out as illustrated, using 12 more Screws (J).

Level the gate to the fence post by adjusting the nuts on the hinges. Check the gate to make sure it functions correctly. Mark where you need to install your latch catch.

Align and fasten the Latch Catch (H) to the fence post using 6 of the included 1¼" Self-Drilling Black Stainless Steel Screws (J). The latch works for both left- and right-hand applications — to reverse it, temporarily remove the spring and bolt, then reverse the paddle portion as needed.
