Practice Makes Perfect

Start with one full panel — it's the best way to learn the process. Then drive all pipes, install your posts, and build each remaining panel one at a time.

Important: Call 811 before you start driving your pipes!

Step 1: Set Stringline

Check your yard's slope early — steep grades may require extra posts. Your stringline will help determine this.

To set your stringline, hammer a stake at each end of every fence run and tie string between them. Your pipes will be aligned to this line. Need help?

Step 2: Determine Slope

Under 5" slope per 6ft panel: No extra posts required

For slopes with a gap less than 5" per panel, simply trim the top of the panel to follow the grade.

Over 5" slope per 6ft Extra post required to split panel

For slopes with a gap greater than 5" per panel, split your panel and purchase an extra post and brackets.

Step 3: Mark Pipe Locations

Mark the ground every 72" to determine exact pipe locations, measuring center-to-center.

Step 4: Remove Outer Donut

Parts Required

A x1

Before driving your pipes, remove the top donut from Pipe Anchor (A) by pulling the tabs to unlock and lifting the outer donut free. Need help? Watch our leveling donut video.

Step 5: Install Pipes

Parts Required

A x1

Drive Pipe Anchor (A) into the ground at each marked location, checking for level roughly every 6". To stay level, pound equally from all four sides. Continue until the lower gear touches the ground. Remember: center-to-center spacing must be 72".

Step 6: Install Top Donut

Parts Required

A x1

Once all pipes are in the ground, install the top donut onto each Pipe Anchor (A) one at a time. Check for level — if a pipe is slightly off, pull the donut tabs and shift its position to compensate.

Step 7: Install Posts

Parts Required

B x1

Slide Post (B) down over Pipe Anchor (A). On flat ground, bury the post 4–5" to avoid a floating look. Inside-to-inside spacing must measure 70⅜.

Step 8: Bracket Installation (First Post)

Parts Required

C x1 H x4

Measure, mark and secure Bracket (C) to your first Post (B), placing it 2" from the bottom of the post and 1¾" from the edge. Fasten with four Screws (H).

Step 9: Bracket Alignment

Parts Required

E x1 C x1

Cap one end of Rail (E) with a loose Bracket (C). Rest the other end in your installed bracket, level the rail, and mark the position of the loose bracket on your second post. Remove the rail — this mark is where you'll secure your second bracket.

Step 10: Bracket Installation (Second Post)

Parts Required

H x4

Using your marked location, secure Bracket (C) to the post with Screws (H).

Step 11: Bottom Rail Install

Parts Required

H x4 E x1

Slide bottom Rail (E) into both brackets and secure with Screws (H).

Step 12: Middle Bracket Installation

Parts Required

D x2 H x2

Measure and mark the position of Middle Bracket (D) on each post, 42" up from the bottom rail. Secure each bracket with two 1" Screws (H) per side.

Important Note Regarding Pool Code:

We recommend installing the middle rail at least 48" above the ground to conform with most pool codes — but check your local regulations before installing, as requirements vary by area.

Step 13: Middle Rail Installation

Parts Required

F x1 H x4

Slide middle Rail (F) into the brackets and secure with Screws (H). Keep your panels square by applying inward pressure to the posts as you fasten.

Step 14: Top Bracket Installation

Parts Required

C x2 H x8

Measure and mark your top bracket position at 53" from the top of the bottom rail to the bottom of the top rail. Secure each bracket through the pre-drilled holes with four 1" Screws (H).

Step 15: Picket Installation

Parts Required

G x14

Slide all 14 Pickets (G) into the rails, pushing each one fully down and flush to the bottom.

Step 16: Top Rail Installation

Parts Required

F x1 H x4

Insert one end of Top Rail (F) into its bracket, align the pickets, then lower the other end into the second bracket. Secure through the pre-drilled holes with four 1" Screws (H).
