In this instance you will want to take extra precaution to secure the lone fence post. This will cause it to remain strong over time. One solution is to screw a bolt right through the post into the house for extra stability. You probably won’t want to look at a shiny bolt every time you go through your gate, so the following shows you how to make it aesthetically appealing:

Cut a piece of leftover vinyl or aluminum rail to fit the gap between the post and the house.

Fasten the fence post to the wall using a 10in long lag screw with a 1.5in washer. You will want to cover up the exposed bolt next to the house with the leftover vinyl or aluminum piece you just cut. You may want to seal around the filler piece with weatherproof silicone to prevent any water from entering through the cracks.

You can spray paint the bolt head and washer black or white to make it blend better with your fence.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1655" class="size-full wp-image-1655" src="https://wambamfence.com/knowledgebase/wp-content/uploads//2017/04/Securing-a-post-to-a-house.jpg" alt="This shows you how to secure a fence post to the house in an aesthetically pleasing way. When installing the anchor, just dig out the hole and fill with ~40 lbs. of concrete. Once set, continue your installation.

If you need help with this, or for other ideas to secure a lone fence post to the house, please call us at 877-778-5733.

Even though it’s not recommended, sometimes you need to hang a gate on a lone fence post that is next to the house.
